About Me

Massachusetts, United States
I am 41 years old. I have been married to my husband for 15 years. We have a son who was born in April 1996. We live in Central Massachusetts with our dog Maggie (a black lab we adopted from the animal rescue league) and our cat Sam (a stray that adopted us) I graduated from college with a BFA in Theatre in 1993 (hence the name) and for a few years pursued a career as an actress. Then life took over and I got married, had a baby and decided to get a "real" job. In November 2004, I was diagnosed with Young Onset Parkinson's disease. In December 2004, I was hospitalized for surgery to remove an ectopic pregnancy. In December 2009, I was laid off from my job. In June 2010, my son was diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome at the age of 14. Stick around to see what happens next!

What a week!

This has been a crazy busy week.

Monday I had my Dr. appt with my primary care. My glucose test came back normal. My cholesterol is still high but my HDL was higher so my ratio changed from Highest Risk to High Risk. whoohoo!! :o)

She didn't say boo about my weight, which I was glad about because I just didn't want to hear it. I know, I'm fat, I need to lose like 100 pounds but I got other things I'm dealing with and I am doing my best damn it...and that's that!

I talked to her about my depression. We decided to give w e l l b u t r i n a try. I've been on it since Wed. It seems to be working well. A few side effects...headache, constipation...but those should subside. I panicked a little when I read about it online. There are warnings everywhere that say you shouldn't take if you are on an MAO and in some place it specifically says selegilline (which I take). But, upon more research I found out that most neurologists think that the risk is overblown. I guess it really only happens at high doses. And then it causes seizures. A few added bonuses to this medication. It helps with weight loss (whoohoo!!) AND it is actually Dopamine Reuptake Inhibitor. So, my PD symptoms have suddenly improved. I don't know if it is placebo effect or what...but frankly I don't care. I am feeling 100% better and I can move so I'm taking it while I can get it. I have my neuro appt next Friday so it should be interesting to see what she says.

What else.....

B had his winter concert this week. It was good. The band was excellent (for an elementary school) but the chorus wasn't that great. The teacher doesn't seem very good. But, B loves it and that is all I can ask for.

We got his report card. It was good and for once only one mention of the need to improve his behavior. I am so hoping this trend continues. Although, he has been having meltdowns again this week. Seems to be just with us. He gets so frustrated and angry and then just loses it. We'll need to work with him on that. I have to figure out what's going on with him. Could just be hormones!

Speaking of hormones... My friends daughter got her period last week. She'll be 11 in a few weeks. She's the same age as B. I can't believe they are growing up so fast.

I think that's it. We finally got some snow. 3 whole inches! OH BOY!! B has skiing today. P drove him up there and they called me when they got there to tell me it was unbelievably packed. I think everyone was inspired.

Ok, that's it. 2 weeks until we leave for Disney...I can not wait!
